Cats that are active are happy cats. Cats need the least sleep out of all mammals. Cats spend as much as sixteen hours sleeping every day, and they spend no less than 30 percent of their awake time grooming themselves.

It is important to ensure that your cat gets enough exercise, as not exercising could lead to numerous health issues. If your cat is not exercised he or she will become frustrated and unhappy, and become quite destructive.

Cats are notorious for tearing curtains and scratching furniture, therefore it is really important to give your cat toys to play with and invest in a scratching post. Spending time with your pets is really quite important as they need love and care the same as we do.

Happy pets develop confidence and nice natures, whereas pets that are never cuddled or spoken to are often skittish or aggressive.

Tennis balls or cardboard toilet rolls will offer many hours of fun for your cat.

Preventing your cat from being overweight is important and if you encourage your cat to play and move, the weight should stay off.

Indoor domestic cats are prone to becoming obese if they are not encouraged to play and move. Remember to always avoid any toys that will tear or shred, as this could prove to be dangerous to your cat.

Pets have a way of winning you over, making them difficult to resist – we are talking about puppies and kittens. But think this through carefully. Before you decide to take a dog or cat home think of the implications.
Boredom often sets in once the animals grows into an adult dog or cat, or the dog might grow larger than you thought or you might even find that once a relationship between two partners breaks up, the pet is sometimes left with nowhere to go.

Time and money is one factor to take into account. Puppies need to go for training, they need to be exercised and they require expensive treatment such as their vaccinations every year, they need to be de-flead, dewormed and remember that pet food is also expensive.

Lightning and Cows:

On the 31st of October in 2005, a single bolt of lightning killed sixty eight cows on a farm near Dorrigo in Australia, and three cows were paralyzed. Happily all three made a complete recovery.

So then why are there so many cow deaths caused by lightning?
One theory is that they graze in the open and in fields. The other theory is that they have all four hooves on the ground when they ear the grass from where the electricity could be conducted.

On the 15th of June, 2009, sixteen cows were killed on a farm in Pencaitlan, Scotland.

On the 23 rd October, 2008 fifty two cows were killed on a farm outside Montevideo in Uruguay; they were killed when they were grazing alongside a wire fence.

1. A dogs that wags its tail does always depict friendliness! Remember when a dog does bow down does mean he wants to play with you, though.

8. Mutts or mongrels don’t always carry the genetic problems that pedigrees tend to have.

9. Dogs that have puppies before being spayed are not better off.

10. Spayed dogs have a lower risk of contracting breast cancer.

Preventing Ticks

You should check your dog frequently for ticks and if you can find them before they attach is helpful.

By cutting your grass short and keeping it so, reduces the areas for a tick to hide

The best way to prevent ticks on your dog is to apply a tick prevention product that is specially designed for dogs. Frontline, Revolution, Advantix and bioSpot are all example of a tick prevention, that should be applied to your dog at least once a month

Another form of prevention is the tick collar like Preventic collar.

Do not use extra amounts of a product or apply more then one at once. Not all products work for all dogs so some trial and error may be needed until you find the one that works for your dog to keep the tick away.

Look after your dog and prevent the ticks.

About The Tick

Ticks are bad news as they may transmit disease and can cause anemias or paralysis in dogs. As a dog owner you need to have the knowledge of ticks to help your canine stay healthy.

Ticks feed on the blood of their hosts and are parasitic arthropods. Ticks are attracted to warmth and motion and often hide out in tall grass or plants in wooded areas. Once the tick has found a host, the tick attaches its mouthparts to the skin and commences the blood meal. A tick will not detach itself until the blood meal is complete, this can last for several hours or days.

Ticks go through four stages, those being the egg, the larva, nymphs and adults. The stages beyond the egg will attach themselves to a host.

Not all ticks carry diseases, but the threat is there. That is why it is important to check your dog regularly for ticks.

Removing Ticks

To search for ticks on your dog, run your hands all over the body. You should pay special attention to the ears, neck and skin folds. If you find any raised areas, examine them closely by parting the hair. Some ticks can be very small, so make sure you are in a well-lit area. If you find an embedded tick, you must remove it and here is how:

1.    Wear latex gloves so that you are protected. Using a tweezer or a special tick removal tool, grip the tick at the     point of attachment, as close to the skin as possible.
2.    Try not to squeeze the body of the tick.
3.    Pull the tick out straight.
4.    Once removed, it’s best to burn the tick.
5.    If part of the tick’s head is still in the skin, try and remove it. If some of the head remains, it will eventually     fall off.
6.    Clean the bite area on your dog with a mild soap and water.
7.    If there is any further irritation on the spot, consult your vetenarian.

Many people acquire a pet without much thought about the aftercare. Before deciding to buy a pet for yourself, your children, a friend or a relative, I would urge you to consider a few things.
1. Are you committed to look after an animal for a minimum of 10 years?
2. Can you afford medical care for this pet?
3. How active is the pet?
4. Do you have a proper enclosed garden for your pet?
5. Can you feed the pet a proper diet?
The reason I want you to seriously consider the above questions is because of the many unwanted animals that end up on the streets or in shelters. A pet is a long term responsibility, and deserves to be loved and looked after. You can’t discard the animal as soon as the novelty or baby cute stage is over.
Pets need to be fed, stimulated and exercised every day. They need to be kept in a safe and clean environment. Prevention must be taken against unwanted pregnancies, worms, ticks and fleas. And should this pet get ill, you must be able to afford proper veterinarian care.
